KRUUSE Urinary Concept We know that our many customers across the continents expect KRUUSE to be at the forefront of innovation and development – and we are now, once again, able to introduce a 1st in veterinary medicine. In line with our present range of products, this product is based on our belief that veterinary patients should have access to the same standard of consumables as human patients. We have therefore worked together with a leading manufacturer of high quality human urinary catheters to develop a urinary catheter for dogs. What is so revolutionary about the urinary catheter? The full length of the catheter has a hydrophilic coating. When this coating is activated in water, the result is a very smooth and viscous surface. It should be noted that the full length of the catheter becomes smooth and viscous. Gel applied to the tip of the catheter will never achieve the same effect. The hydrophilic coating significantly decreases friction in the dog’s urethra – providing obvious benefits to canine patients. Hydrophilic coated catheters have been available in human medicine for decades, and they have been tested and used extensively in humans. These catheters are, not surprisingly, preferred by human patients, as the hydrophilic coating reduces friction in the urethra. This helps to decrease patient discomfort and to prevent iatrogenic damage to the urethra. Hydrophilic coated catheters provide additional benefits such as less microscopic haematuria and decreased incidence of UTI (urinary tract infection). Now hydrophilic coated urinary catheters are available for dogs. After all, why should canine patients not have the same benefits as human patients when urinary catheterization is indicated? A dog feels discomfort when catheterized exactly the same way a human patient does.
