I KRUUSE Suture FAQ Can you please explain how the length of the needle is described/measured? All KRUUSE suture needles are described with length in millimeters from point to end, following the shape of the needle. I have used Catgut for a long time in my practice, now it is difficult to get – why? There is a tendency world-wide to move away from using biological sutures, like Catgut. Catgut creates more substantial tissue reactions than the synthetic. The European Food and Health Committee recommends not to use Catgut at all. We recommend to use KRUUSE PGA suture instead of Catgut, as this suture has a similar absorbtion profile and causes less tissue reaction. 26 mm Can you please explain how the shape of the needle is described? The suture needle is usually curved, as it commonly eases the suturing. The description ½C means that the the curve of the needle is shaped as half a circle. 3/8C means 3/8 parts of a circle. Other usual shapes are straight and compound curved. I have used other suture brands, but are planning to change to KRUUSE sutures. How can you help me to find the right KRUUSE products? KRUUSE has a lot of material to support the vets in their conversion from other brands. In our catalogue there are several charts describing the material and its benefits and features. Your KRUUSE representative can also share information and help you making the right decisions and conversion. 3/8 circle ½ circle Straight Compound curved Can you please explain how the type of the needle is described and shown? We always show the type of needle with a symbol. The needle can either be cutting or round. The cutting needle cuts either on the outer edge/curve of the needle, this type is called reverse cutting or on the inner edge/curve of the needle, this type is called conventional cutting. Cutting needles are commonly used in fibrous tissue like the skin. The round bodied needles have no sharp edges, just a tapered tip, and they are commonly used in soft tissue surgery. The type is shown on the box, on the individual peel pack and also in many of our marketing materials to make it easy for the vet and technicians to pick the right needle.
